Sunita Ahuja Files for Divorce from Govinda at Bandra Family Court, Citing Adultery, Cruelty & Desertion
Mumbai, August 22, 2025: In a development that has stirred the Bollywood world, Sunita Ahuja, wife of veterans actor Govinda, has formally filed for divorce at the Bandra Family Court. The petition, filed in December 2024, cites serious allegations of adultery, cruelty, and desertion, marking the end of their 38-year marriage.
Legal Grounds and Court Proceedings
Sunita filed the divorce petition under Section 13(1)(i), (ia), and (ib) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, turning to the court for legal intervention. Although Govinda was summoned to court in May 2025, he has repeatedly failed to attend hearings. Consequently, a show cause notice has been issued to him.
Meanwhile, Sunita has been consistently present, participating in court-mandated counselling sessions and making a visible effort toward legal protocol.

The case gained widespread attention after Sunita shared an emotional vlog from Mahalaxmi Temple in Mumbai. Amid tears, she spoke about her long-standing devotion to the Goddess, who had blessed her with marriage and children. “Whoever tries to break my home, Maa Kaali will not forgive them,” she said, her voice trembling.
