Woman Alleges Mother Was Raped for 14 Years Inside Mosque, UP Police Launches Probe
Rampur, Uttar Pradesh:
A shocking case has come to light from Rampur district where a woman has alleged that her mother was subjected to sexual assault for 14 years inside a mosque. The allegations, which surfaced through a viral video, also include claims of murder, gang rape, trafficking, and religious exploitation. Following the video’s circulation, the Uttar Pradesh Police has launched a probe and arrested a cleric connected to the mosque.
The Allegations
The survivor, who now goes by the name Yashoda after reconverting to Hinduism, released a video on August 20, 2025, claiming that her mother was raped continuously inside the mosque for over a decade. She further alleged that the cleric and his associates forced themselves on her family, using threats and violence to silence them.
She also accused the cleric of heinous crimes against her sisters. One of her sisters, she claimed, was beheaded, while another, a four-year-old, was sexually assaulted. She added that she herself was tortured—her uterus was allegedly damaged with a knife, and a revolver was forced inside her private parts to terrorize her into silence.
The woman said her father passed away in 2012, after which her mother was confined for years and continuously abused. She alleged that a family land dispute involving over 350 bighas was also linked to her uncle’s murder, orchestrated by those close to the cleric.
Alleged Crime Network
According to the survivor, the mosque was being used as a hub for multiple criminal activities. She claimed that illegal arms, pornographic material, contraceptives, and other suspicious items were hidden inside. Viral videos on social media appeared to show the cleric surrounded by objectionable material, further fueling suspicions of a larger organized crime racket.
Local reports suggest that the activities extended beyond sexual exploitation, involving forced religious conversions, trafficking, and the smuggling of women and girls to other states and even abroad.
Police Response and Arrest
Taking note of the viral video, the Civil Lines police station in Rampur launched an investigation. On August 21, 2025, the cleric identified as Raees Ahmed, was arrested. A formal FIR (No. 316/25) was registered against him.
The FIR includes charges under:
- The Arms Act (for possession of illegal weapons),
- The Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, and
- The Information Technology Act (for the circulation of obscene content).
Police sources confirmed that obscene videos, weapons, and other incriminating evidence were recovered during raids. The accused has been sent to judicial custody, and further interrogations are underway to identify his accomplices.
Wider Implications
The case has sparked outrage both locally and nationally. Many activists have called it one of the most disturbing instances of long-term exploitation under the guise of religious authority. Several political and social groups have demanded that the investigation be transferred to central agencies such as the CBI or NIA, citing the possibility of an interstate and international trafficking network.
The survivor has also appealed for protection, claiming her family continues to receive death threats from those connected to the cleric.
Voices of Concern
Locals expressed shock at the revelations, with many alleging that they had long suspected illegal activities at the mosque but feared speaking up. Women’s rights groups and child protection agencies have demanded immediate rehabilitation and counseling for the victims.
Legal experts believe that if the survivor’s claims are substantiated, the case could open up one of the largest criminal investigations in the region, linking sexual abuse, trafficking, illegal conversions, and organized crime under one network.
What Lies Ahead
The Rampur police has confirmed that more arrests are likely as they trace the wider circle of suspects involved in the exploitation. The case is expected to expand beyond Rampur, with central agencies possibly stepping in.
For now, the survivor’s harrowing testimony stands as a chilling reminder of how vulnerable individuals and families can be trapped in cycles of abuse for years without justice. The next steps will depend on how thoroughly the investigation is pursued and whether the victims are given adequate protection and support.
